Totten Sets Fundraising Record
Attorney General candidate builds momentum on heels of poll showing race with Schuette a toss-up.
KALAMAZOO — Today the Mark Totten for Attorney General campaign will file its campaign finance report for 2013, setting a new record. The Totten campaign raised more support and has more cash-on-hand than any Democratic candidate for Attorney General entering the nine-month period to the general election since Frank Kelley. This record fundraising comes on the heels of a recent PPP poll showing the race between Schuette and Totten is a dead heat.
In today’s filing, Totten reporting raising $170,548.51 in 2013, with $128,411.49 cash on hand. Ninety-percent of Totten’s support came from within the State of Michigan at an average contribution of $252.
“I’m thrilled to receive the support of hundreds of people across the State of Michigan who want an Attorney General who will protect them from harm and never let politics get in the way,” said Mark Totten. He continued: “This race is about our values. For the past three years Bill Schuette has used his office to serve his party, his patrons, and his own political career. And everyone in our state is less safe because of it. Families have been devastated by the economic crisis and far too often Schuette has sat on the sidelines. I’m in this race to win and give Michigan families an advocate who fights for their values.”
Mark Totten is a former federal prosecutor and a law professor at Michigan State University College of Law. He holds a law degree and a PhD in ethics from Yale University. Totten previously served as an attorney in the United States Department of Justice and as a clerk on a federal court of appeals. A media kit including a biography and media photos is available here.
